A Windego is a Spirit of Opposites.
It is not human and not an animal.
It is a supernatural spirit.
It is half spirit and half trickster.
It is not a cyclops, man eating giant nor does it hurt people.
It is a spirit that teaches people about the truth.
It is not seen by humans, but it can enter a human shapeshifting that person into a teacher for others.
The person will have no idea of the shift into a Windego, being totally unaware. The shapeshifting allows the Windego to teach humankind about the real truth. Most people like to believe they know everything. This “know it all” attitude is hard for everyone to deal with. It is hard for anyone to reason with someone so stubborn and headstrong.
The Windego goes around selecting people needing a lesson to set them straight about reality.
The Windego takes form in a person to say, act or do something that is contrary to the belief systems a society has.
The Windego shows us examples of things that are said and done differently just to prove we cannot always do things or be like everyone else.
The Windego is a trickster who likes to poke fun at controlling people just to show how very little control they have over others.
The Windego also shows people that even though we are different, we are all the same. The people have fears of the Windego. Fears that rattle their belief system. Their belief system makes no sense by the people hand onto them believing them to be true just because they heard it from somewhere without no understanding or explanation to back it up. Windegos go everywhere and are not responsible for the seasons of winter and spring. Nanabush is a Windego Spirit some of the time and the rest of the time, he is a human. He does not change himself; it just happens to him when his ego gets in the way. Windegos go where they want to, and people do not even realize their presence.
At Sundance’s and Raindance’s, people will dress up in costumes to represent them and honor their contribution to ceremonies.

The Thunder beings choose the people they want as their human representative on Earth.
