TEEPEE TEACHING

Teepee made by Marie Jacko Tahgaiwenene

A long, long time ago, homes were made from the land and its resources.
Temporary shelters that were replaced when the hides wore out, the bark curled up or when the reeds dried up and fell apart.
The poles were bundled up and transported whenever the new location of settlement lacked suitable trees.
Balsam branches were used for flooring in our area.
Black spruce further up north.
Reeds for the prairie regions.
Every home had love for what was provided.
A teepee for some.
A wigwam for others.
A home was a place to sleep, rest, cook and collect supplies needed for future use.
So now days you see wigwams as sweat lodges and teepees as gathering places for socials & teachings.
The legacy lives on.
