Sweat Lodge Tobacco Tie Teaching

The medicines in the tobacco ties are for the people in the sweat lodge to get help for the unresolved issues that they are hanging onto.

The tobacco ties, when placed all around the inside of the sweat lodge will help to heal the individuals with what they need help with.

There is a total of 365 tobacco ties for each day of the year, 91 for each cardinal direction with the colours of yellow for East, red for South, black for West and white for North. The Inner and Outer Direction, the one purple tobacco tie is both the first and last tobacco tie in the circle. It represents the Great Mystery who is in each person and in all of Creation.

Each direction has a power in which the Spirits gather to give help to that direction.

1. The East Direction, the colour yellow is for inner-child work.

2. The South Direction, the colour red is for work on your youth stage of life.

3. The West Direction, the colour black is for work on your adulthood.

4. The North Direction, the colour white is for the elders and your Ancestors that need your help.

5. The Inner and Outer Direction, the colour purple is for loving yourself and all of Creation.

The Spirits come through the fire pit. The tobacco helps the Spirits to come in when offered before the sweat lodge begins.

The families on the Otherside sit in the Western Direction.

The medicine in the tobacco ties will mix with the air and water inside the lodge.

Each person will be breathing in the medicine and getting the healing that eachingredient offers.
