BALSAM FIR

Balsam is hung over doors and windows preventing positive energy from leaving and preventing negative energy from entering through energetic pathways.
Red string is tied to the ends of balsam branches to catch negative energy attempting to enter the home.

Red is used to contain the energy of whatever is inside the color red.

Change balsam on each moon cycle, full or new moon. If left too long, protection is lessened.

People must make effort to hang balsam for protection of family, animals, possessions, home and for the people who come into the house.

Balsam which has finished its work should be burned or put on the ground to return to from which it came from.

Negative energy that is trapped inside will turn into energy that is good for something else.

We all know that Mother Earth loves composting. She turns a lot of our garbage into nutrients for plants, shrubs, and trees. She also feeds insects, crawlers, birds, and animals with our garbage.

When you notice branches drying up, change them.

If no balsam is in area to be found, use mountain ash branches. Mountain ash can be found everywhere and is even planted.

Mountain ash is like Balsam for protection of family, animals, possessions, home and for the people who come into the house.

Mountain ash is prepared the same way with an offering to the spirit of the tree, tied ends with red string and changed.

Any red tie will do, string, twine, sinew, wool, thread etc. It doesn’t have to be made from 100% natural fiber like cotton or silk. Red is a protection color. It doesn’t matter the material it is made from.

The red string or tie needs to make it at least four (4) times around the end of the branch. There is no measurement required for coverage.

The branch should be at least nine (9) inches long. Nine is a number for change in numerology. Change is what is required. Changing negative energy into positive energy.

Branches of balsam, mountain ash or cedar may be kept in a freezer for storage for a maximum of six (6) months only then it begins to lose its medicine.

Keep branches in freezer bags to protect them from freezer burn. Have red string tied on end before freezing to hold medicine in if for your home.

If freezing branches for someone else, do not put on red string. They will do it for their own home.

But, if you are getting it for someone as a gift, tie or wrap red string on the ends because you are giving your positive energy for someone and their home. A special intention, a gift for self for another.

Balsam can be picked off a tree all year round as it’s an evergreen. But only the ends of the main branches, not side off shoot branches or top of the tree as it needs to keep growing.

An offering of tobacco, cigarette, cornmeal, candy even pocket change is required as the spirit of the medicine needs to be asked for the medicine and what it will be used for, its purpose.

An exchange of goods or offering makes the person and medicine work better because an agreement between a human (man/woman) and spirit, the duties are understood.

A prayer thanking and appreciating the spirit of the medicine for work done is required when medicine is returned to the ground or burned so that the medicine will be available for the next time needed and will be found. A good relationship of respect and trust is established. A bond between man and spirit of plant, tree, or animal spirit.

No need to place balsam in washroom without windows or in closets. There is no exist to the outside. Holes from chimneys or dryer vents do not count as entrances or exists for energy pathways.

There is no need to start in the basement and work your way upstairs in placement of branches as in smudging homes or buildings. Start room by room using common sense. No need to follow east to north direction.

When changing, replace as you take down as it is easier fewer moving chairs and ladders. Also, it ensures replacements are put up and not forgotten when you take one day and notice a week later that balsam branches are not done.

Cedar can be used to protect home, contents, and family but it is not as strong as balsam. Balsam is strongest, next with mountain ash and cedar following third. They all work and are prepared the same way and just have different strength of protection.
